Air New Zealand is bringing back Spanish carrier Wamos Air to help cover flights during the busy summer and Easter holiday period, as the airline continues to deal with ongoing global engine supply shortages from Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney.

Between 30 October 2025 and 30 April 2026, Wamos will operate selected Air New Zealand services from Auckland to Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti, Tokyo and Bali.

Air New Zealand’s Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy O’Brien said the move was designed to give travellers confidence in their plans.

“This is a proactive measure we’ve taken to protect our customers’ journeys over the busy summer period. This partnership means we have some additional flexibility and resilience at a time when demand is at its peak,” he said.

The aircraft used will be an Airbus A330-300, previously part of the Virgin Atlantic fleet. It will offer a similar layout to Air New Zealand’s Boeing 787-9, with 31 lie-flat Business Premier herringbone seats, 48 Premium Economy seats and 185 Economy seats.

O’Brien said the airline had weighed up how to best safeguard customers’ plans while still delivering the expected service. “We know our customers look forward to our world-renowned Air New Zealand service, so we’ve carefully considered how to best safeguard customers’ travel plans and maintain that high level of service. Wamos Air has supported us well before, and we’re confident they’ll deliver for our customers again.”

Travellers already booked on flights that will be operated by Wamos will be contacted directly with full details and options if they wish to change. Customers can switch to another Air New Zealand service on the same route and cabin class at no extra charge, request a full refund, or place their fare into credit.

For new bookings, flights operated by Wamos on behalf of Air New Zealand will be clearly flagged during the booking process.

According to Air New Zealand, customers can expect the following on Wamos-operated services:

  • The Airbus A330-300 with a three-class cabin.
  • Check-in and boarding handled by Air New Zealand staff, with onboard service provided by Wamos crew to Air New Zealand standards.
  • The same fare inclusions as booked, such as Seats to Suit, The Works, Premium Economy and Business Premier.
  • Snacks and other service elements in line with existing Air New Zealand offerings.
