Qatar Airways and Boeing have announced a major aircraft deal, with the airline ordering up to 210 widebody jets. The agreement sets a new record as Boeing’s largest-ever widebody order and includes the biggest purchase of 787 Dreamliners to date. It also marks the largest aircraft order in Qatar Airways’ history.
The deal includes additional orders for Boeing’s latest 777-9 model and is expected to support around 400,000 jobs in the United States. The signing was witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Boeing executives, and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
The order includes:
- 130 787 Dreamliners, the long-range, ultra-efficient widebody airplane family that has delivered a 25% fuel-use improvement compared to airplanes it replaces and superior comfort for passengers. Ten orders were previously booked as unidentified.
- 30 777-9s, the world’s largest twin-engine airplane that is designed to set new standards in efficiency by reducing fuel use and emissions by 25% compared to the airplanes it replaces, while elevating the passenger flight experience.
- Options for an additional 50 787 and 777X airplanes.
Al-Meer described the agreement as a crucial step in the airline’s plans to invest in a younger, more efficient fleet to meet growing demand and connect passengers globally. Boeing Commercial Airplanes President Stephanie Pope said the company was honoured by the order and looked forward to building 787s and 777s for Qatar Airways into the next decade. Qatar Airways currently operates more than 150 Boeing aircraft and will become the largest 787 Dreamliner operator in the Middle East following this purchase.
