Air New Zealand is swapping safety demos for dance beats this December, turning one of its flights into a flying concert.
On Thursday 4 December, Flight NZ1331 from Auckland to Sydney will host Synthony in the Sky – a one-off event combining electronic dance music with a live orchestra-inspired show.
Headlining the set at 30,000 feet is Shapeshifter (DJ set), with support from DJ Dick Johnson and guest performers linked to the popular Synthony shows. Passengers will also get a ticket to Synthony No.5 at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt the following evening, included in the fare.
The project has a personal connection to the airline. Captain David Elmsly, one of Air New Zealand’s senior pilots, co-founded the Synthony series before it became a fixture of the live music calendar. “Bringing it into the air is something I never imagined when we first started,” he said.
Flight NZ1331 departs Auckland at 4:20pm on Thursday 4 December 2025, with one-way fares priced at NZ$549. Tickets are available from today through the Air New Zealand website.
