Air Canada has restarted operations following several days of cancellations, with three flights taking off on Tuesday — AC009 from Toronto to Tokyo-Narita, AC556 from Vancouver to Los Angeles and AC489 from Montreal to Toronto.

In total, 155 flights are scheduled to depart today from Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, covering routes across North America as well as to Europe, Asia and the South Pacific. The airline is gradually reintroducing international services, with the recovery expected to take up to ten days as aircraft and crew are repositioned and mandatory maintenance checks are completed.

Some flights will continue to be cancelled during this period until schedules stabilise. Customers are being advised to only go to the airport if they hold a confirmed booking and their flight is listed as operating. Flight status can be checked through the airline’s website or app.

Air Canada has also announced it will roll out an “exceptional disruption policy” from 20 August to help cover transport expenses for travellers who had to make their own arrangements during the shutdown. A recovery dashboard has been launched online to provide updates as operations return to normal.

Those with cancelled flights can request a full refund, opt for a travel credit, or be rebooked on other airlines, though space is limited given peak summer demand. To help manage the backlog, 5,000 agents have been assigned to assist customers with alternative travel plans.
