Disney’s stage production of The Lion King will return to Sydney in April 2026 for a limited season at the Capitol Theatre.
The musical, which has been seen by more than 120 million people worldwide, first opened on Broadway in 1997 and has since become one of the most recognisable stage shows internationally.
Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Lion King is directed by Julie Taymor and features choreography by Garth Fagan. The score includes music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice.
The show is known for its elaborate puppetry and staging that bring animals such as giraffes, gazelles, and birds to life on stage, recreating the world of the Serengeti and the story of Pride Rock.
“The Lion King is a story filled with hope and adventure, set against a backdrop of stunning visuals,” director Julie Taymor has said of the production.
The Sydney season will mark the production’s latest return to Australia after previous runs in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
