Singapore Airlines has apologised to passengers after flight SQ298 from Christchurch to Singapore was cancelled on 13 September following a technical issue with the aircraft.
The Airbus A350-900 Long Haul was preparing for take-off when it had to return to the gate twice. Initial checks were carried out and the aircraft was restarted, but the problem persisted.
A livestream of the delay was broadcast on aviation streaming platform SkySquadTV.
The airline said, “Singapore Airlines sincerely apologises to all customers affected by the disruption to flight SQ298, which was scheduled to operate from Christchurch to Singapore on 13 September 2025.”
Because a spare part and extra repair time were needed, the flight was cancelled. Passengers were given overnight hotel accommodation and meals while waiting for a replacement service.
The flight was renumbered SQ9298 and departed Christchurch the next day at 5.46pm local time, landing in Singapore just after midnight on 15 September.
Singapore Airlines said, “The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority.”
